Hydronic Radiant Floor Heating

Warm water circulating inside a close loop of small tubes spaced evenly in the floor is the basis for hydronic radiant floor heating. This water must have a source of heat, a pump to move the water through the tubes and a simple control system that efficiently controls the space temperature. With hydronic heat, your choice of floor surface is important; carpet, tile, stained concrete or wood (or all of these) in different areas throughout the home can be installed. These surfaces and the spaces they serve will all loose and gain heat at different rates. For this reason, a detailed room by room heat loss calculation should be done. Once this is complete a tube design can be established. Another decision to be made is what type of fuel will be used to heat the water that circulates in the floor. Small gas fired boilers are popular because they are very efficient and they will provide the heat source for all the potable water used in the home, as well as floor heat. Other choices are propane, geothermal heat pump or oil. Solar water heating is the most efficient and can generally provide hot water for all radiant floor heating and up to 70% of potable hot water required.

Infloorboard

Infloorboard™ is a flooring system that is designed to be installed on top of a subfloor application. It contains enough thermal mass to be effective, but not so much that it’s difficult to control. Infloorboard™ is only 5/8” thick, allowing installation on an existing floor with minimal changes to existing floor heights. No other product combines the performance, ease of installation and cost-effectiveness of Infloorboard.

Mechanical Boards

Infloor produces many different pre-assembled mechanical boards to control hydronic heating systems. Our boards provide complete system control of multiple zones and the system’s heat source. They can also be configured to control an indirect fired water heater that runs off of the boiler. Primary Loop Boards, 4-way Mixing Valve Boards, Geothermal/Closed Loop Water Heater Boards and High Efficiency Boiler Boards can all be configured with multiple zones. All boards include temperature and pressure gauges, air eliminators, fill valves, backflow preventers, expansion tank, secondary pumps, purge valves, zone valves and differential bypass valves.

If you have a unique system, we can even custom build a mechanical board specifically for you.

Warmboard

Warmboard combines a structural subfloor and a thermodynamically sophisticated radiant panel into an elegantly simple system. Warmboard begins with a stiff, strong, 1-1/8″ thick, 4′ X 8′ sheet of tongue and groove, weather-resistant plywood. A modular pattern of channels is cut into the top surface. A thick sheet of aluminum is stamped to match the channel pattern and is permanently bonded to each panel.

Other radiant systems are more labor intensive because they’re added either above or below the subfloor. Warmboard is the subfloor. With Warmboard, the same labor that used to install just a subfloor, installs a major portion of your radiant system. And as the panels are installed, the modular channel pattern automatically produces the tubing layout that takes so much time to accomplish with other systems. A roll of half-inch PEX Aluminum PEX tubing (the radiant industry standard for toughness, reliability and performance) is then easily snapped into the channel to complete the hydronic circuit. The lowered labor cost designed into Warmboard saves you money throughout construction.
